Gay Rights Group Buys Billboards in Bill Frist's Hometown as Federal Marriage Amendment Goes to Senate Floor

Soulforce, the organization founded to end religion-based discrimination of gays and lesbians, is taking their cause to the boyhood streets of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, the Senator responsible for re-introducing the controversial marriage amendment. Soulforce has placed sixteen billboard posters in and around his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee to call attention to the issue.

Methodist Church Says OK to Deny Gay Man Membership

The United Methodist Church’s high-court is refusing to reconsider an earlier ruling that allowed a Virginia minister to deny a man church membership because he is gay. Leaders in Virginia argued that Rev. Edward Johnson's actions violated the denomination's pledge of openness to anyone seeking Christ.

In Burlington VT on May 28, Ted Hobart will run his second Vermont City Marathon in memory of his Sterling College friend, Lollie Winans. Lollie was killed while camping with her girlfriend, Julie Williams. The case made national headlines in 2002 when then-Attorney General John Ashcroft prosecuted the killings as the first federal hate crime in U.S. history.

Virginia Panel Rejects Birth Certificate Ban for Gay Parents

A Senate committee narrowly killed legislation banning gay adoptive parents in other states from getting both of their names listed on birth certificates issued by the state of Virginia. The Education and Health Committee voted 8-7 to kill the measure, which Senator Emmett Hanger filed in response to a ruling last April by the Virginia Supreme Court.
